What's your favorite kind of science fiction story? Space Opera? The hard stuff? Fantasy?

I prefer Fantasy. The Drangonlance books will always be my favorite. Raistlin Majere was one of my 1st "book crushes."
A close second would be David Eddings books. Polgara the sorceress was full of awesome.

Pretty much anything with a good story and characters I care about. Andre Norton is still the queen of sci-fi, but she's got some good competition these days. For hard sf, Julie Czerneda is hard to beat. Her biology based stories are incredible.

I prefer the gritty, realistic sci-fi, character centric, where technology is the backdrop to human emotion/interaction. "Space Opera" is certainly fun, but rarely anything more. Great blog! Mark-

I took a class on Sci Fi... the instructor's approach was that sci fi has its roots in fantasy (any fantastic, imaginative lit) and evolved from there. I have no problem with this description.
