Sentient silverware, cozy towns, and unexpected adventures.

The Legends & Lattes series by Travis Baldreee is an auto-buy for me. I fell in love with book 1 and read it three times during chemo. This book was such a bright spot during such a dark time. His stories are comforting, filled with heart, humor and fun. His characters are interesting and easy to relate to, and this stories are unlike the usual run-of-the-mill fantasy fare. I’m definitely a not-the-usual-run-of-the-mill reader, so that takes me to a happy place. And cozy fantasy is my favorite fantasy flavor.
Also… sentient silverware??
I’m honestly jealous I didn’t think of it first.
This book centers around Fern, the bookseller we met in Bookshops & Bonedust, who heads to Thune to set up a new shop right beside Viv’s coffee shop. Yay! Old friends reunited! Cozy town vibes? Check.
But of course, things don’t stay quiet for long. What starts as a gentle tale of books and coffee quickly turns into an adventure full of mercenaries, bounties, goblins, and fights. There are new characters to fall in love with, a quest that asks what really makes up a person’s heart, and the kind of clever chaos that makes Baldree’s worlds so fun to inhabit.
I wasn’t disappointed for a single moment. But I am disappointed that I now have to wait for the next one. Travis!! Don’t ever stop writing! More, more, more!
