I thoroughly enjoyed Lift Off by Tyrean Martinson, an action-packed space opera adventure that kept me engaged from start to finish. Despite its brevity, the story wastes no time, delivering a fast-paced narrative that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat.

While some elements of the plot feel familiar, the unique setting and creative twists make this tale stand out. Martinson’s ability to blend the expected with the original left me constantly guessing and eagerly anticipating what would happen next. The ending has me eagerly awaiting more, as I’m definitely curious to see where this adventure leads.

For fans of thrilling space operas, Lift Off is a must-read that promises excitement and originality in a compact, engaging package.

#SciFi #MovieReview: Atlas #sciencefiction

Movie Review, Science Fiction Movie / M Pax / November 22, 2024

If you’re looking for a movie with high-octane action and an easy-to-follow plot, Atlas fits the bill perfectly. While it’s neither groundbreaking nor terrible, it’s a very watchable film. The action sequences are well-executed, with plenty of fight scenes, chases, and explosions to keep you engaged throughout.

That said, if you’re expecting clever twists or moments that will catch you off guard, you might leave disappointed. Atlas sticks to a familiar formula—good guys versus bad guys—with no major surprises along the way. In fact, the predictability of the plot is its main drawback. It’s the kind of movie where you can see where things are heading well before the characters do, but the ride is enjoyable enough.

What Atlas lacks in originality, it makes up for in sheer entertainment value. It’s the type of movie you can throw on at the end of a long day, knowing that it’ll deliver a satisfying blend of action, albeit without any deep storytelling or thought-provoking moments.

It did get me to space and give me a look at an alien planet, so pluses for that. So, I’d give Atlas a 1.5 beer rating. A wee dram will make Atlas more entertaining.

Looking for a fantastic mystery to put yourself in the holiday mood? I highly recommend this one!

This story was a true pleasure to read. It was filled with cozy, Hallmark moments with lots of feels, and I rooted for the main character to shed some of her crusty personality. Oh, and there’s murder!

The story centers around Harlow, a successful journalist at the Local Rag. One of the columnists is missing (Crystal who writes the psychic advice column) and winds up dead! Not only that, she haunts Harlow, nagging her to find her killer.

Crystal (the dead one) and Harlow are polar opposites, which results in a lot of fun and poignant moments.

I didn’t guess the killer, but I’m sometimes bad at these things. It doesn’t matter, the twists the investigation takes are fun. There’s lots of Christmas in the story, too.

I’m always willing to take whatever ride this author takes me on. I’ve enjoyed all of Gwen Gardner’s ghostly tales, and this is no exception. Keep writing, Gwen!
